Obituary
Lapensée, Raymond Delphis – 1943 (Noranda, PQ) - 2023 (Sarnia, ON)
On Friday, August 11, 2023, surrounded by his family, Ray passed peacefully at the age of 80 years. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frances Lapensee (nee Kensley), daughter Colleen Lapensée, daughter in law, Janet Lapensée, daughter Gigi (Lapensée) Walent-Burke and son-in-law Sean Burke. He was predeceased by his parents, Delphis (1989) and Edwina (2000) (England) Lapensée, his sisters Genevieve Gleason (1970) and Debra Lapensée (2023), his children, Mark Lapensée (2020), daughter, Claire Lapensée (2013), son in law Frank Walent (2007) and grandson, Zachariah Walent (1999). Ray is survived by his brother Guy Lapensée and sister-in-law Mary Lapensée, Anita and Phil Davies, Doreen (Leonard) Pacquette, Gary and Linda Kensley, and Mike and Linda Ross. His grandchildren, Mitchell Burr (Katie), Vincent Burr, Kristen Lapensée (Ryan and Ana), Jennifer Lapensée (Santos), Rebecca Lapensée, Jamie Lapensée, Alicia Lapensée, Adam Burke, Abigail Walent, and Isaac Walent. Great Grandchildren Jesse Faria, Nikole Burr, Ashton Burr, Audrey Burr, and Layne MacNeil. Special family members include Carol Proulx and Luke, Lisa and Gabe Faria, and Jack VanderAa. There are many special cousins, nieces and nephews and Godchildren who shared in Ray’s life. He was always known as a family man and for his friendly hellos, helpful offerings to inspect houses and special carpentry skills. Ray was a proud building inspector for Sarnia, Lambton and St. Clair Township municipal offices. He enjoyed motorcycles, roller skating, golf, boating, cards on Friday night, and travelling, all things he and Fran did together. He enjoyed Thursday morning breakfasts with the Retirees from City Hall. Ray would joke about backing talkwards with the grandkids, supporting them in their sports or events by rooting them on. He had a quiet laugh, but it was contagious and the ‘dad jokes’ could be relentless. He would whistle a pretty tune when he worked in his shop and was always happy to stop and talk with neighbours and visitors about all kinds of subjects. He will be missed dearly, and it gives us comfort knowing he is no longer bound by his earthly body. We have many memories to carry us and share during this time. Thank you to all those who have supported in the care of Ray, especially Dr. Kim and his team. Cremation has already taken place. A Funeral Mass honouring Ray’s life will be celebrated at St. Michael’s Parish, 1920 Wildwood Drive, Brights Grove, ON, on August 24, 2023, at 11:00 am. Private Internment to be at a later date. Remembrances and condolences may be expressed to the family online in “Ray’s Guestbook” at mccormackfuneralhomesarnia.com. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to St. Joseph’s Hospice Sarnia-Lambton or St. Vincent de Paul St Michael's Parish.

My brother David Baird and I grew up together in the 1950s and 60s. Together with Dave Burke, Malcolm Lang, and many others we were a close-knit group. Ray was the best looking guy in our group and quickly hooked up with Frances (60 years!). Inevitably we grew up and we grew apart - my brother Dave to Saskatchewan and meyself to Québec. We had great memories and I celebrate Ray’s life. Yet, in this time of sadness, on my brother’s behalf as well, I offer our condolences to Frances, their children and the many affected by Ray’s life.

I was the Mayor of Moore from 1991 to 1997 and enjoyed working with Ray at Moore Township. He had a great smile and enjoyed life. He will be missed. Condolences to the family
