Obituary
Doug Van Boxmeer, born on July 12, 1955, in Sarnia, Ontario, peacefully passed away on Saturday October 28, 2023, at Bluewater Health after a courageous battle with cancer. Doug was predeceased by his parents Harry (1987) and Ann (2015) and his brothers Mark (2003) and Murray (1982). He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Van Boxmeer (Bowness), and his son Serge Bowness (Stacey), along with his cherished granddaughters, Emma and Kasey. Doug is also survived by his devoted siblings, Mary Billham (John), John (Judy), Kathleen Downs (Dave), and Richard (Jose), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. Doug was not only a dedicated family man but also a passionate golfer. He spent countless hours on the golf course, forging deep friendships with his many companions. Professionally, Doug dedicated over 34 years to Lanxess (formerly Bayer), where he made significant contributions to research and development. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Blaine of Bayshore Nursing for the exceptional healthcare, compassion, and unwavering support provided to Doug over the last three years. Your impact will forever be remembered. Also, a special thanks to the dedicated palliative care team at Bluewater Health. Doug Van Boxmeer's memory will live on in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, dedication, and a zest for life will be cherished by his family and friends. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at the McCormack Funeral Home, 254 George Street (at College Avenue) for visitation on Friday November 3 from 6 - 8 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at McCormack Funeral Home on Saturday November 4 at 1 pm, visitation to be held 1 hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
